How we live together

Social Justice

At Celebration we believe that social justice includes acceptance of all people of good intention, advocating for peace, justice and fairness for all people, caring for the earth and being engaged in the culture and society that is unique to us.

One of the most important functions of the ‘ekklesia’, the Church, is to empower people to use the gifts God gave them for the good of the world.  We gather together each week to open our hearts and souls to the Holy One, then we take that spirit with us out into the world.

Quilting for Lutheran World Relief

Most weeks from September through May, members and friends of Celebration gather together to assemble simple comforters to send around the world to those in need.  In the spring and fall of each year we pack those quilts for shipping.  While it’s primarily been women doing this work, we welcome any and all to come be part of this fun and meaningful work.  The group meets at the Depot Arts Center on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Bring a sack lunch – we’ll make the coffee.  You could serve by laying out squares in pleasing patterns; stitching squares together; assembling quilt top, batting, and backing; tying knots  to secure the quilt;  raising funds for renting the Depot and shipping the quilts.    You don’t have to know how to do any of that – we’ll help you learn.  Come join us, make some quilts, make some friends, and make a difference

Advocating with our Presence

For many years, Celebration members have joined Sunday afternoon "peace" demonstrations.  We often join protests and marches as a way to stand up for issues of justice.

Antiracist book club starting

Celebration is joining folks from Pilgrim Congregational Church in an online book club discussion beginning Monday, September 14, 2020.  The 11 week study will focus on the the book How to Be an Antiracist by Abram X. Kendi.   If you are interested in joining our weekly zoom discussion, please contact Pastor Deb Butler at revdeb.48@gmail.

Family Promise of Skagit County

Doug Miller serves as coordinator of our participation in this amazing ministry that moves families from homelessness into stable housing.  Celebration Lutheran Church is a Support Congregation,  which means that about four times a year it’s our turn to provide three dinners for the 8-14 guests, in partnership with  United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, our Host Congregation.

Care for the Earth

We care for our environment by worshipping in a shared space, recycling bulletins, and composting our trash and waste.

Putting our Money to Work

Celebration supports the work of the wider church through our “benevolence” contributions, a 10% tithe off the top of our income.  In this way we support the ELCA's programs, education and outreach.

In addition, we dedicate the next 5% of our income to be shared with local ministries and organizations.

Finally, we have a giving program called "Blessed to be a Blessing" where each month we give two congregational members money to give away - no strings attached.  This way we truly put our money where are hearts are.
Our Leadership Team (LT) gathers quarterly or as needed to discuss the business of the church including budgeting, scheduling and staff .  Most of our decision making is done at a congregational level during special meetings after worship.
