Family Promise of Skagit County

How we live together

Social Justice

At Celebration we believe that social justice includes acceptance of all people of good intention, advocating for peace, justice and fairness for all people, caring for the earth and being engaged in the culture and society that is unique to us.

One of the most important functions of the ‘ekklesia’, the Church, is to empower people to use the gifts God gave them for the good of the world.  We gather together each week to open our hearts and souls to the Holy One, then we take that spirit with us out into the world.

Quilting for Lutheran World Relief

Most weeks, members and friends of Celebration gather together with members of Anacortes Lutheran Church to assemble simple comforters to send around the world to those in need.  Once or twice a year we bless the completed quilts and pack them up for shipping to communities who are experiencing  severe hardship.  While it’s primarily been women doing this work, we welcome any and all to come be part of this fun and meaningful work.  If you're interested in joining us in this important ministry, please email Vickie Corley at [email protected] for more information.

Putting our Money to Work

Celebration supports the work of the wider church through our “benevolence” contributions, a 10% tithe off the top of our income.  In this way we support the ELCA's programs, education and outreach.

In addition, we dedicate the next 5% of our income to be shared with local ministries and organizations.

Finally, we have a giving program called "Blessed to be a Blessing" where each month we give a congregational member money to give away - no strings attached.  This way we truly put our money where are hearts are.

Family Promise of Skagit County

Doug Miller serves as coordinator of our participation in this amazing ministry that moves families from homelessness into stable housing.  Celebration Lutheran Church is a Support Congregation,  which means that about four times a year it’s our turn to provide three dinners for the 8-14 guests, in partnership with  United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, our Host Congregation.

Care for the Earth

We care for our environment by worshipping in a shared space, recycling bulletins, and composting our trash and waste.

Education

Since we are a small congregation, we don't have a regular Sunday School program.  Instead we offer book and topic discussions at various times throughout the year - either in outside locations, or following Sunday worship.

Community Presence

We stand up for social justice in our community at various times throughout the year, including standing up with our LGBTQ+ neighbors in the Anacortes Pride parade in June.

Our Leadership Team (LT) gathers regularly  to discuss the business of the church including budgeting, scheduling and staff .  Most of our decision making is done at a congregational level during special meetings after worship.
